THOMAS CHALKLEN, PhD
EXPERIMENTAL SCIENTIST
Material Science & Biosensors
Thomas is a materials scientist with a background in soft materials and sensors. After completing his BA and MSc in Natural Sciences at the University of Cambridge, he stayed on to do a PhD in Material Science, using nanostructuring to create a soft surface for tissue engineering and biosensors.
Since then, Thomas has done a postdoc looking at cohesion in granular flow, which is what led him to Biozeroc. His experience in prototyping, electronics, and novel manufacturing techniques is supporting the build of new and improved equipment for experiments.
Alongside his career, Thomas is passionate about education. He has spent 5 years teaching undergraduate materials science, tutoring A-level students and running university science open days for younger students. Personal hobbies mostly focus on sport, including lacrosse, which he has played and refereed for over 8 years.
